I really miss the possibility to lock my Mac using a shortcut (without installing additional software). I did not know about this shortcut to put your Mac to sleep, since my Mac requires a password to wake up this shortcut will do just fine:

With the new version of Filevault in Mac OS X Lion you can not only encrypt your whole disk but you can also encrypt an external disk. This isn’t done using the default Filevault preference pane but using the Disk Utility (Applications ▸ Utilities). Once your external disk is connected and Disk Utility is open select your external disk on the left:
Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted) in the Format selector:
Click on Erase and type in an encryption password:
Erasing and encrypting the disk will only take a few seconds. Every time you connect your encrypted disk to a Mac OS X Lion machine it will ask you to type in the decryption password:
Pro tip: you can also make 2 partitions on one external disk and only encrypt 1
